Betty Wasserman, of Betty Wasserman Art & Interiors, shares design secrets for NYC.
What are some of your personal style preferences that you would like to see start trending when interior decorating?
Betty Wasserman: I love the layering of color that is the same, or close. It keeps the value of something almost monochromatic, forcing the use of texture and materials, instead of color, for contrast and interest.
What are some of the most helpful improvements you can make in your home to improve value?
Betty Wasserman: Custom cabinetry! This elevates the entire look and usually the functionality of any space, especially when working in NYC, where space is of the essence. You must be smart about multi-tasking, asking a lot from one space, but supporting it correctly to be able to do all you ask. And, of course, making sure it looks good as well.
What are the top things you look for when going to furniture outlets?
Betty Wasserman: A Deal! But it’s very hard to find something that isn’t damaged in some way, shape or form. It’s more constructive to find a great cabinetmaker who can simply make you want you need at a fair price!
