Darryl Hurts, artist from New York City, creates a meaningful masterpiece at the Andaz New York City Mural.
Darryl, you completed the Mural at the Andaz, what was your inspiration and creative process for choosing Lady Liberty for the Mural?
Darryl Hurts: The inspiration for the mural is to unite people. I wanted to create something the would visually reach as many people as possible. The creative process actually started a few years ago on my first trip to NYC in which I photographed Lady Liberty. The photos that I took allowed me to use Lady Liberty as my muse for the mural.
NYC is an eclectic demographic and the people that pass by your Mural, what emotions do you want them to feel?
Darryl Hurts: I would have to say pride & hope are the best words to describe the emotions I want people to feel.
What is the message you are trying to portray?
Darryl Hurts: The message is to never, never, give up & to not let your dreams stay just a dream. There’s beauty in every struggle that you go through & hopefully this mural can be the lighting rod that sparks someone to see that beauty.
What other projects are you currently working on?
Darryl Hurts: I’m currently working on a custom stormtrooper collection.
What can we expect for the future from Darryl?
Darryl Hurts: My short term goals are to continue developing relationships with companies & other artist to expand my reach in the industry. Art Basel 2017 is also in the realm of possibility. Dust far 2017 has been an interesting year for me as an artist. I’ve been uncomfortable at times & have had to achieve my art on canvas that were unfamiliar to me. Dew to that discomfort I’m a better artist & I’ve never been as inspired to make more art then at this time.
