Debbie Talianko, West Coast luxury interior designer, offers insight on 2018 interior design trends.
This year, what do you see becoming an upcoming trend for 2018?
It’s important to note that trends in the interior design industry move much slower than with fashion. For a few years, we have seen an influx of rustic woods, eclectic styling and a color scheme of gray, white, cream, blush and gold. It’s all the rage. While we love this look, its important to note that when selecting for a home’s decor, its best to stay with what you love and that resonates with your personality and not just what is trendy. Because of the cost factor, a home’s decor is something that will be enjoyed for many years and you don’t want to tire of it too quickly.
How do you navigate the changing trends when implementing your designs for a home?
We always listen to what our clients are asking for before we begin selecting their furnishings and fixtures. After all, this is their home, not ours. Of course, we are influenced by what is new in the market place but it always comes back to what our clients are after.
What project are you currently working on?
Currently, we are working on an upstairs master suite which includes his and hers baths and closets in a Spanish Colonial Revival home. We are also excited to be working on a mid-century/contemporary kitchen and bath remodel for another client. In addition, we have two other kitchen/great room remodels and a handful of decorating projects. We typically handle anywhere from 8-12 projects at any given time.
